How to Sign Into Microsoft Outlook Using your CUNY Login

Student Email Transition

Starting April 6th, 2026 the @stu.bmcc.cuny.edu student email domain will be switched over to the @login.cuny.edu domain. Everything from your @stu.bmcc.cuny.edu account will transfer over (emails, files, personalization) - the only things changing are the credentials used to sign into your email. These changes will be completed on April 13th, 2026.

**NOTE: Documents and files saved in your OneDrive may not transfer over. Saving these files in a back-up is recommended.

What this means:

  • Your current student email account ending in "@stu.bmcc.cuny.edu" will retire and shift to your CUNY Login account ending in "@login.cuny.edu".
    • Any new email messages addressed to your @stu.bmcc.cuny.edu account will be forwarded automatically to your @login.cuny.edu account.
  • Your CUNY Login account will now function for all CUNY related services (CUNYfirst, Brightspace, DegreeWorks, etc.) as well as student Outlook email access.
  • Single inbox for all your CUNY School emails.
    • For example, if you are a Hunter College Student taking classes at BMCC both your Hunter College emails and BMCC emails will be sent to your @login.cuny.edu account .
    • Additionally, new college-branded email addresses will be assigned to students and associated with the CUNY Login inbox. In BMCC's case, you will be granted a new email address ending in @stu-mail.bmcc.cuny.edu. You would provide this email address to your professors, classmates, etc. in order to receive emails from them. To check these emails, you would sign into Outlook using your CUNY Login Credentials.
  • Easier means of sharing and collaborating with others over Microsoft 365 apps (Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, etc.).
  • Stronger protection from phishing, spam, and malicious emails.

How to Sign into Your Outlook Email

(The following images assumes the student's name is "John Doe" with ID number "XXXXXX45")

1. Open the Microsoft Outlook App or go to Outlook.com and click on "sign in"

  • If you have a saved sign-in on your app, browser, or device that is using the @stu.bmcc.cuny.edu account, please sign out or remove the account from your Outlook app first.

2. When prompted, use your @login.cuny.edu account. Then, click "Next". (If there is another account already saved there, select "use another account").

3. You will be taken to the CUNY Login page.

  • If you do not remember your CUNY account credentials you can select either "Forgot Password" or "Forgot Username" on this same page.

4. Log in in using your CUNY Login account and password. On this step, you DO NOT add the "@login.cuny.edu" to your username.

5. If you have not done so already, it is mandatory to set up your MFA (Multi-factor Authenticator) for your Microsoft apps. Click on "Next".

  • *Note: This is different from your CUNY Login MFA. This MFA will be used to protect your email account and other Microsoft sign-ins.

6. You will be prompted to install the Microsoft Authenticator app. The app is free and has the same icon shown in the following image. If you do not wish to download the Microsoft Authenticator app, you can select "Set up a different authentication app" or "Set up a different way to sign in". Otherwise, download and install Microsoft Authenticator onto your smart phone then click "Next".

7. Once the Microsoft Authenticator app is installed, add an account using the '+' symbol on the top right corner of the app and select "Work or School". If prompted on the app, select the option to "Scan QR Code".

8. Then, click "Next".

9. A QR Code should appear. Use the Authenticator app to scan the QR code. Then click "Next".

10. After setting up your MFA, you will be prompted by the authenticator app to type in a 2 digit number. Use the two digit number displayed on Outlook to verify your sign-in.

11. You should now be able to access your Outlook email inbox and other Microsoft 365 applications.
