How to log in to your BMCC student email and set up multi-factor authentication (MFA)

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) adds an extra layer of protection to your online accounts, making it harder for unauthorized users to gain access to your data. This measure ensures that your information remains safe and secure from potential threats.

How to sign in to your Microsoft 365 account

1. Open a web browser and go to https://outlook.office365.com/ and sign in with your BMCC email account credentials.

2. After you choose Sign in, you’ll be prompted to provide additional information for security purposes. Click on Next to proceed.

Set up the Microsoft Authenticator app as your verification method

1. For authentication, the Microsoft Authenticator app is the default method. You can easily download the app for free on your smartphone. After downloading, click on Next.

2. While setting up your account, ensure that you are on the "Setup your account" page and proceed to download the Microsoft Authenticator app onto your mobile device

3. To get started, access the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device and select the + symbol in the top-right corner of the screen or choose "Add account" and then select "Work or school account."

4. Return to the Set up your account page on your computer, and then select Next. You'll be prompted to scan the QR code, as shown below.

5. The Microsoft Authenticator app should successfully add your BMCC email account without requiring any additional information from you.

Set up messaging or call as your verification method

1. If you prefer to set up SMS or Phone Call authentication instead, click on I want to set up a different method at the bottom left of the page.

2. Select Phone from the drop-down menu and click on confirm.

3. Choose in between “Text me a code” or “Call me” and enter your mobile phone number on the Phone page and proceed by clicking on the Next button.

4. Once you receive a text message with a verification code on your mobile device, enter the code in the box on the web page and click on Next. If you chose to receive a call, please follow the instructions on the call.

5. Your security info is set up and you can use text messaging or call to verify your identity when using two-step verification to access your BMCC email account. Click on Done to proceed to your inbox.
